Diploma Description All businesses need highly skilled staff and, with the continuing development of IT as part of every role, it is important when considering a career within an office environment that you have the right skills to do a variety of jobs. Much of the work in any business is carried out on a computer; whether it is typing letters, inputting data or booking appointments. So, a working knowledge of Microsoft and other office skills are essential to give individuals a good understanding of what is required in today’s busy office. Whatever the role, a career in any office environment is both challenging and demanding and will give the individual a true insight into the many career paths that are available. Core Subjects - choose FOUR Computer Keyboard Skills – Learn how to touch type accurately, using the correct keyboard technique AND/OR Keyboard Skills Development – Develop your typing speed to improve productivity using graded copying exercises and time dictations. A number of stages are available of up to 70 wpm Windows XP - Learn the basic principls of the Windows XP operating system Microsoft Word 2007 – Introductory and intermediate word processing skills to a good employable standard Microsoft Word 2007 Expert – Learn advanced spreadsheet skills, covering areas such as importing and exporting data, creating and using templates, linking workbooks, data management, using analysis tools and pivot tables. Microsoft Excel 2007 –Introductory and intermediate spreadsheet skills to a good employable standard Microsoft Outlook 2007 – Learn how to share, manage and schedule information electronically Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 – Gain competency in creating slide presentations. Areas covered include formatting, inserting tables, pictures, sound, hyperlinks, applying transition and timing effects for a slide show Health and Safety Essentials - Learn health and safety essentials, fire safety, manual handling, workstation safety and basic first aid Communication at Work - Learn how to communicate effectively in the workplace using verbal and non-verbal communication. Understand the principles and structure of written communication. Basic Book-keeping – gain a clear understanding of the basic principles of book-keeping.
